Men's Tennis 2016-17

Our Coaches

Andrew Foster

Andrew is a former top British player, reaching 170 ATP. He competed in many Grand Slam events, and rattled eventual winner Pete Sampras in the Wimbledon 4th round in 1993. 

Andrew has coached many top British and international players, and brings a wealth of expertise to the university programme.

Jo Ward 

Jo is a former British Ladies’ Champion and WTA top 150 player. She assists in recruitment, student support, and tennis club logistics. 

She is a current PhD student researching psychological factors affecting female tennis performance.

Richard Buscombe

Richard, a Senior Lecturer in Applied Sport & Exercise Science, assists in athlete recruitment and is on hand in an advisory capacity for Student Athletes. He is BASES accredited, and a former Kent county tennis player.

Our Women's Team

Lyuboslava Peruhova 

‘Ava’ is currently ranked #27 in her native Bulgaria and has won numerous matches on the ITF circuit. She comes to UEL with the specific ambition of achieving a senior world ranking.

Alexandra Mitrovska

Aleks came to UEL as a Business Marketing undergraduate transfer student from Old Dominion University in the United States. She is a former Bulgarian National Junior Champion (2004, 2006, 2008 & 2010) and helped Bulgaria to a third place finish in the European Team Championships in Italy in 2008.

Camille Prulhiere

Camille is a Business Management (Marketing) student, and hails from France via Texas. She recorded a second place finish in the Texas State Tournament (TAPPS) for her High School team. She was a part of the winning UEL team in the BUCS Cup last year.

Brielle Koulen 

Brielle, a Sports Coaching scholar, comes to UEL after a very successful junior tennis career. She is a former quarter-finalist at both the British National Championships, the Nottingham ITF tournament, and at British Tour level. 

She won the Middlesex U18 and Ladies’ championships at the age of 14, and capped off a good year by winning five matches at the prestigious Orange Bowl Championships.

Millenia Severino

Millennia was a shining star on the British Junior Circuit. As an under 12 she often won the u12 and u14 age groups in the tournaments she entered, including the Essex county championships. 

She also did well on a national level and out-smarted many highly ranked opponents using her savvy brain and somewhat unorthodox style of play.

She has represented Essex county in all age groups, including the division 1 under 18s team. 
 

Marie Prulhiere

A French citizen who came to UEL from Dallas International High School in Texas, where she was part of the team finishing in second place in the Texas State Tournament, Marie is an undergraduate Business Management student. She was part of the UEL team who won the BUCS Cup last year, as well as gaining a first place finish in the BUCS 4th Division.

Winde Janssens

Winde was ranked 49th in Belgium in 2011, before leaving for a scholarship at the University of Colorado in America. She was a successful singles and doubles team player in the US finishing 21st on the all-time list for the University of Colorado with her combined wins. Graduating with a degree in Integrated Physiology, Winde is now undertaking an MSc in Human Physiology.

Our Men's Team

Michael Suleau (GBR)

Michael is a former Kent county champion and current men’s team player.

His current 1.1 rating is hard-earned through many good tournament results, including qualifying and winning a round in a Futures event in Morocco, and winning the Newcastle British Tour tournament.

He is a Sport and Exercise Science final year student.

Lewis Thompson

A Sports and Exercise Science student, Lewis enjoyed a successful junior tennis career before embarking on his degree. A former u18 British Nationals semi-finalist, he has since qualified for the main draw of Futures events several times.

Patrick Eicheler 

An MSc International Business Management student, Patrick comes to us from Troy University in the USA. His former achievements include gaining promotion to the Landesliga A for his team TC Hallwang in 2015.

Jared Linzell

Jared is an undergraduate Sports Coaching student and currently a 2.2 UK rating. His former accomplishments include winning an ITF Junior doubles title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 2011, and being a quarterfinalist in a grade 2 event in Winchester in 2012. 

Jared was an integral part of the successful Essex U18 county cup team, who in 2013 were champions of the division 2 competition.

Sebastian Kay

Seb is a Sports Journalism student, and with a 134mph serve is a key member of the UEL men’s team! He is a former Kent county doubles champion and semi-finalist in the men’s singles.

James Ledger 

James has worked hard to get his current LTA rating up to a 1.2 and he is a former quarter-finalist at British Tour level. He aims to continue this fine form by playing in more British Tours and Futures. James is a Business Marketing undergraduate student

Christopher Neill-Smith

Chris, a Sports Coaching scholar, comes to UEL from Northern Ireland, where he was the West Ireland Championships (grade A) champion. He represented Ulster at u16 and u18s, and won the Fermanagh Men’s Open.

Mike Elortegui

Mike has a long history of tennis, beginning at three years old and playing throughout High School in Carmel, California. He earned a scholarship to play for Southern Mississippi before transferring to Niagara University to complete his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Notable achievements include a top 5 USTA national ranking in juniors and wins over several highly ranked ATP professionals, including Jack Sock.
