Basketball 2nds In Defeat To City

Basketball 2nds In Defeat To City

UEL got off the mark with a simple 2 pointer, only for the scores to be levelled a second later. Another 2 and a free throw gave UEL an early 5-2 lead. The referee stopped the play for a couple of minutes early on, to talk with the opposition’s bench, sensing a bit of discord amongst their players. A well worked move leads to UEL playing through the visitors to score a very well-worked 2 points. However, some quick counters from City University London, as they draw the scores level at 10-10 with a minute and a half left on the clock. We end the quarter with UEL leading 13-10, in a tight, low-scoring 10 minutes of basketball.

UEL lost the lead for the first time, early in the second quarter, with their opponent’s making a strong start and capitalising on UEL’s stray finishing. Conceding two 3-pointers in quick succession, UEL found themselves 10 points down; however, this is eased as they countered quickly to score their own 3. UEL finish with an emphatic 3 to end the second quarter, losing 32-40. The scoring is opened by UEL in the third quarter; needing to get a foothold back in to this game. Another 2 immediately after hints that they are going to put up a considerable fight. Their third in a row brings the score to 38-40.

The scores are leveled, and UEL are back in this game, and on the front foot. The third quarter came to a close with UEL having given a much better performance than in the second, but with City University London still led by 3, with the scoreline at 50-53. UEL took the lead for the first time since the start of the second quarter, although the visitors do their best to disrupt the home team’s momentum. A quick blitz from the away side resulted in UEL being down by 10 points again, with 4 minutes remaining. UEL’s big final push as the quarter drew to a close was in vain, as City University London held out for a final score of 66-74.
