Women's Basketball Blast Sussex In Impressive Victory

Women's Basketball Blast Sussex In Impressive Victory

UEL’s women went in to this one looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

In a competitive start to the game, Sussex took an early lead after winning the tip off. UEL responded with a 3 pointer, which was an early sign of what was to come. Sussex followed on from this by scoring twice in quick succession to make the score 6-3. The quarter continued at great pace, with UEL countering particularly efficiently to begin pulling away from the visitors, however the quarter finished with UEL’s advantage only at 3 points, with the scoreboard reading 17-14.

The second quarter began in a frantic fashion for the home side, scoring over and over again with no response from Sussex for the first 5 minutes. After recovering a couple of points, Sussex looked like they might go on to make a fight-back, but UEL made light work of some difficult shots to extend their lead further. The second quarter ended with the home side 20 points ahead. The third quarter saw a lot of effective defence from UEL, who then made the most of their quick counter-attacking plays. Individual finesse was also becoming more evident from the UEL women, as their skilful sequences of play showed their confidence as the scoreboard boasted their dominance.

The fourth and final quarter began with UEL more than 30 points in the lead. As the quarter progressed the home side seemed to score for fun as they ran away with the game. It seemed a shame for Sussex, who sit in a respectful 3rd position in the league table and who made such a competitive start to the game, to lose this one by a 50-point margin in the end. However, UEL showed utter dominance to win in such a resounding manner.
