Netball 1st Team Lose Out To UCL

Netball 1st Team Lose Out To UCL

UEL women’s netball 1st team lost to the University College London 31-42 in a closely contested game at the SportsDock on Wednesday. UCL got the first quarter under way and were first to get on the scoreboard. UEL were quick to get back into the game and eventually took a 3-2 lead. The first quarter was very much end to end, but both sides missed a couple of opportunities in front of the hoop. UEL ended the quarter leading 14-8.

The scoring in the second quarter was once again opened by UCL, as they looked to gain some scoring momentum. Some brilliant build up play by UEL saw them get their first point of the quarter which kept them in front. There was some great finishing from both team’s goal attack and goal shoot as they continued to get points on the board, which meant the score at half time was 22-22 in a very tight game.

UEL got the 3rd quarter started, but similarly to the first two quarters UCL were first to score. UCL came out much more attacking in the 3rd quarter, as UEL at times struggled to defend UCL‘s quick counter attacking play. This wasn’t UEL’s best performance of the game as the team only managed to score one point in the quarter and UCL went into the final quarter with a nine-point lead.

Tiredness and fatigue was beginning to set in for the women in the final quarter, as a couple of clumsy passes were made and attacks were slower compared to earlier in the game. This did not stop UEL from trying to fight back though, as they scored three points in quick succession to take the game to UEL 30 UCL 40. However, time was not on UEL’s side as they lost the game by a score line of 31-42.

The team should not be disheartened by the result, as the game was much closer than what the final score showed. UEL women’s netball 1st team will be looking to get back to winning ways as next up is a trip to St George’s University of London.
