Men's Basketball 1st's Home Win Over Southampton

University of East London’s basketball Men’s first team maintained their impressive start to the season with an 87-75 home win over Southampton Solent. The fast paced, thrilling encounter entertained from start to finish, with plenty of points scored early on, and Solent pushing UEL right up to the final seconds. After a quick start, both teams settled into the first quarter and after being neck and neck up until 7-7, UEL took a slight advantage and led 18-14 at the end of the quarter, despite a strong end to the quarter by Solent.

UEL enjoyed a dominant second quarter, taking a strong 31-18 lead at one stage, but Solent made the most of their free throws to maintain a foothold in the match, and there was still all to play for at 37-26. In the third quarter, UEL increased their dominance, and we’re almost out of sight at by the end of the quarter at 67-47. There was an added confidence in UEL game now, and spectators were treated to the scoring of some audacious three-pointers.

However, Solent capitalised on some complacency and put UEL under some pressure in the final quarter. A flurry of points got Solent right back in the game, but UEL did just enough to see their victory out at 87-75. The win means UEL now have four wins from five in the BUCS League Premier South, and three points mean they leapfrog
Southampton Solent into second place, with a game in hand on Oxford in first.
