Men's Hockey 1st suffer unfortunate loss

UEL Men’s 1st team had a tough fixture against top of the league, Royal Vets 1st on Wednesday, 18 November.

Despite a strong second half performance UEL came away with a 7-4 loss. Unfortunately for UEL, they were only able to field a team of 10 men, giving the opponent the upper hand from the get go.

UEL quickly found themselves 3-0 down due to some sloppy mistakes however, Joe Nelmes, scored a great solo effort before halftime to make the score 3-1 and keep UEL in the game.

A strong half time talk kept UEL heads high and they came back onto the pitch knowing a win was definitely achievable. With this mind-set it was only a few seconds into the second half when UEL scored their second, a cracker off a straight strike from a short corner by Mike Crossley.

However, Vets responded well, using their numbers advantage to put 3 more goals past UEL making it 6-2. Another short corner strike from Mike made it 6-3 but Vets retaliated with a confident goal to make it 7-3.

Despite a fabulous volley from Jack Rosser, UEL were unable to turn the game around and the final whistle blew with Vets winning 7-4.

Regardless of the score line, UEL demonstrated improved play with the whole team stepping up. Time for them to put this loss behind them and build on their strengths for the next game.
