Our boxing club
The UEL boxing club was created in 2010 and this year we have developed and grown in numbers.
The club also welcome individuals of varying ability to come and train, even if you are complete beginner. Students can use the Boxing Club sessions to improve fitness and learn the basics of boxing. UEL Boxing Club also accommodates individuals who want to learn to box and progress to sparring and competing.
In 2014-2015, UEL was the highest ranked London University for Boxing, winning four medals at the BUCS National Championships. Previous Boxing Scholars include GB boxer and Rio 2016 Olympian Lawrence Okolie, GB’s Olympic Boxing Squad Chris Mbwakongo and Irish National Champion Kieran Forde.
The Boxing club train in West Ham Boys Boxing Clubs new facility based in Plaistow. The facility is boxing specific and provides designated areas for sparing in two permanent rings; another area with five punch bags hanging from the ceiling and a further area for cardio work specifically focusing on fitness.
The boxing club is a two minute walk from Plaistow tube station and easy to see from the stations' platforms. Training takes place every Wednesday and Friday from 15:00-17:00 in West Ham Boys Boxing Club.
Joining the boxing club is a fantastic way to really improve your aerobic fitness levels and your coordination. The coaches create an inviting atmosphere and the two sessions each week are made fun to ensure that everyone wants to come back each week for more.
Becoming a member not only helps you get fit, learn new skills but also helps create friendships with others that have a similar interest to you.
Boxing is a great sport to participate and join especially if you just want to join to get fit and make friends because the club still encourage members that do not want to progress onto sparring and having competitive bouts.
The club arrange additional fitness jogging sessions at other times with another local university boxing club to keep both universities members motivated and encouraged whilst building friendships.

UEL has supported me as a student and an athlete. The flexible elite athlete study policy allows me, as a sports scholar, to compete and train at the highest level whilst ensuring I have the flexibility to earn a degree.Adam Gemili , Elite scholar
