Sport In Your Futures
Sports In Your Futures Programme
Designed and delivered by East London Sport, Sports In Your Futures (SIYF) is a community programme that connects primary schools across East London with the power of sport, wellbeing, and education.
Each event gives children aged 7–11 the chance to experience university life, take part in new activities, and understand how sport can shape their futures both on and off the field.
About the SportInYourFutures Programme
Sports In Your Futures is a long-term initiative that uses sport as a tool for positive change.
The programme tackles barriers to participation such as limited access to facilities, low confidence, and lack of representation. By engaging hundreds of pupils across boroughs including Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, SIYF helps children build teamwork, healthy habits, and aspirations for higher education and active living.
Since its launch, the programme has welcomed thousands of children to UEL’s SportsDock and continues to grow each year to meet the needs of East London’s diverse communities.
How it works
All events are hosted at SportsDock, the home of sport at the University of East London.
Each session runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and combines active sport rotations, team challenges, and wellbeing-led workshops
- Multi-sport rotations: Pupils take part in activities such as Sitting volleyball, boxing, 3v3 basketball, skipping, and cricket, supported by experienced coaches.
- Experience of university life: Children get their first opportunity to explore a university campus and imagine higher
- Live match experiences: Pupils watch UEL’s high-performance teams compete in real fixtures, often their first experience
- Athlete Q&As: UEL student-athletes share their stories and achievements, offering guidance on training, study, and sporting careers.
- Community connection: Each festival welcomes up to 500 children, fostering collaboration and friendship among local schools.
SIYF is expanding its reach and deepening its focus on inclusivity, wellbeing, and representation across all activities.
This year introduces several new strands:
Break the Cycle Workshops
A new interactive series for Years 5 and 6 girls, designed to explore periods, body confidence, and movement.
These sessions combine fitness, creativity, and open discussion to help young girls understand their bodies and stay active with confidence.
Para Sports and Inclusive Opportunities
In partnership with the Special Olympics, SIYF will host a dedicated inclusive sports festival that highlights para and adaptive sports.
Children will experience a range of accessible activities that promote awareness, teamwork, and inclusion for all abilities.
Water Sports at the Docks
Working with partners such as London Youth Rowing (LYR) and the Sea Cadets, SIYF is introducing a new water-based module that teaches teamwork, water safety, and confidence through rowing and dockside activities on the UEL campus.
Women in Sport Focus
Following the annual Women in Sports Festival, SIYF continues to champion equal opportunities in sport.
Through leadership talks, movement workshops, and engagement with elite athletes, girls are encouraged to build confidence, find joy in sport, and see a future for themselves in the industry.
