Since graduating from the MSc in Sports and Exercise Science with Sports Psychology course in 2020, I have worked for the London Lions basketball team as a player development coach, and I’m about to start the accreditation process to become a licensed Sports Psychologist. The MSc at UEL provided the curriculum and experience necessary to meet the requirements for this process and I am super excited to get going!”

Why choose us?
Situated on our Docklands Campus, SportsDock is the home of sport at UEL and serves as a primary location for teaching on our courses. This state-of-the-art facility, which opened in 2011 at a cost of £21 million, also served as the training headquarters for TeamUSA in the run-up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
As a career-led university, we are proud of our strong links to industry. Our sports department boasts an extensive array of connections with various organisations including Active Newham and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. We have also partnered with the West Ham Foundation to deliver some of our courses, giving students the unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience of working with a Premier League club.
Some of our postgraduate sport degrees are accredited by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) and the Society of Sports Therapists. This means that your skills will match what employers want.
What we're researching
Given our proximity to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, it's no surprise that the university's research is closely intertwined with the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Our research aims to expand the scientific understanding of how to optimise athletic performance, as well as improve the quality of life for those in our immediate community. Our investigations delve into topics such as positive sport psychology, exercise physiology, nutrition, and wellbeing.
As an institution, we are dedicated to improving the communities around us, meaning we actively seek out projects that benefit society and offer real-world learning opportunities for our students. Our research has a direct, positive impact on the lives of both our students and the local community.
Career
Graduates of our sports degrees have found success at renowned clubs including West Ham and the New York Giants. Completing one of our courses opens up a wealth of career opportunities including coaching, managing fitness clubs, personal training, teaching, or becoming a sports therapist.
