The Smart Sustainable and Resilient Environment (S2RE) research groups would undertake high impact research in Engineering at the University of East London to address the challenges for urban design, costal engineering, resilient infrastructure, communication, integrated health care and automation.
The following is an overview of the S2RE research groups:
Structures and Materials The group promotes research on engineering solutions aimed at achieving a sustainable and resilient built environment. The main areas of research addressed by this group are: Structural performance of concrete, steel and composite structures; Modern urban ground challenges; Green roofs and green infrastructure; Sustainable material management, supply chain and management; Digital photogrammetry and laser scanning.
Coastal and River Engineering The group is conducting research aimed at achieving sustainable and resilient coastal and river engineering solutions. Main areas of research addressed by this group are: Resilience to river and coastal flooding; Disaster prevention mechanisms against tsunamis; Storm surges and tsunamis; Digital photogrammetry and laser scanning.
Internet of Things (IoT) Communications and Signal Processing The group is conducting research in IoT, communication technologies and signal processing. Main areas include Smart City service delivery platforms, integrated health care such as chronic ailment monitoring and brain computer interface (BCI). 5G multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels and modulation; microwave filters to achieve similar performance to the waveguide technology. Use of wavelet transforms for modelling of seismic activity and monitoring for resilient infrastructure design; and control systems for robotics and automation.
