What you'll learn

Big business is big news and by studying this course with us you will learn the facts behind the headlines.

As a master's student, you will hone your ability to critically analyse concepts and issues in international business by studying the latest thinking and research as you examine real-world business practice through case studies of global companies.

For the bulk of the course, you will study core modules to deepen your knowledge of managing resources, innovation, supply chains, strategy, leadership, change management, marketing, and research.

You can choose to do a dissertation or you can study an additional module and produce a management report based on independent research. Or you could produce the business plan for your new venture.

Throughout your time with us, you'll learn how to collect and analyse information and data from a wide range of sources in order to enhance your understanding and insight into the topics you study.

We consistently review and develop our courses and modules to ensure they are up-to-date with sector and industry graduate skills demands. Course structure, modules, and options are subject to change.

How you'll learn

As a postgraduate student, you will be expected to conduct independent work and research, supported by our experienced international business academics. We will provide you with the tools and methods, including an online portal, to access business databases, real industry cases, and other study sources.

Alongside private study, you will have plenty of contact with our team of lecturers, learning through a mix of lectures, seminars, workshops, and guest speakers. The international business world thinks in project terms, and so do we.

Our staff's research feeds organically into their teaching. For example, Dr André Slowak has published on environmental policy in China and continues to work with colleagues on sustainability innovation in the UK, Germany, India, and China. Dr Qingan (Angus) Huang has been interviewed by the Financial Times for his latest strategy research and our team members present at leading conferences - such as the Academy of Management - across the globe, whether in China or the United Arab Emirates.

How does this benefit you? Great careers are built on real-world projects and a wide portfolio of relevant experience. Nothing is more important than having a coach who is an expert in international business and also genuinely interested in your student journey. We run a personal tutoring scheme and compile business case studies fed from industry. We also provide a number of business development support services to you via the Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability. Employability is more than a buzzword - we directly provide you with networking opportunities that connect to the modules you’re actually studying, and tangibly prepare you for your next career steps.

How you will be assessed

You'll be assessed through a mixture of different methods, allowing you to develop multiple study skills and demonstrate your abilities in a variety of ways. Seminars and interactive case studies characterise this course.

Each module is assessed separately - typically, there are two pieces of assessment for each taught module, so you will have four assessments to complete in each term. One will be an examination, one a group project, and others coursework. All students have to complete a dissertation. All assessments count towards your Master's award.
