Your future career

Your future career

If you are a qualified teacher who already has Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), but not the PGCE academic qualification QTS sometimes comes with, you will find this course useful in progressing your career. Unqualified teachers currently enrolled on a programme leading to QTS - for example under the School Direct Salaried programme - can also benefit.

Having gained the PGCE Non-QTS qualification, you might, for example, want to change jobs, or teach in another part of the UK, or even in another country. You may even decide to go on and do a Master's degree.

Explore the different career options you can pursue with this degree and see the median salaries of the sector on our Career Coach portal.

What you'll learn

Studying for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (non-QTS) course will involve attending seminars at UEL's Stratford campus and completing two level 7 (master's level) assignments - each worth 30 academic credits.

The first assignment, Developing Subject Expertise and Subject Specialism will require you to investigate your subject specialism and assess your strengths and areas for development.

The second assignment, Active Enquiry and Intervention: Impacting on Learner Progress, will require you to interrogate an aspect of your teaching environment and carry out an action research project with your learners.

Throughout the course, we'll support your academic writing through face-to-face seminar discussions and online forums.

The course runs during UEL's spring and summer terms.

How you'll learn

We encourage an educational experience that is active, social, collaborative, engaging and student-owned. You will have access to a variety of resources ensuring your learning experience goes beyond the classroom.

How you will be assessed

For the award of PGCE (non-QTS) both modules need to be passed.
