Course modules

The Non-Qualified Teacher Status PGCE covers two modules. Active Enquiry and Intervention Impacting upon Learner Progress teaches you knowledge and skills in critical thinking, reflective practice, and action research to design, put in place, and critically check evidence-informed classroom interventions that enhance learner progress. Developing Subject Expertise and Subject Specialism helps you to identify and enhance your subject expertise within a chosen area. You'll apply relevant pedagogic models and critically reflect on their implementation to refine future practice.

If you are a qualified teacher who already has Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), but not the PGCE academic qualification QTS sometimes comes with, you will find this course useful in progressing your career.

Career options

Unqualified teachers currently enrolled on a programme leading to QTS - for example under the School Direct Salaried programme - can also benefit.

Having gained the PGCE Non-QTS qualification, you might, for example, want to change jobs, or teach in another part of the UK, or even in another country. You may even decide to go on and do a Master's degree.
