What you'll learn

As a student on the MSc Project Management course, you will hone your ability to critically analyse concepts and issues in project management in global contexts. By studying the latest thinking, research and application you will study and examine real-world project management practice through commercial and non-commercial projects and case studies of global companies. The sustainable way of dealing and managing projects will also be part of this course.

For the bulk of the course, you will study core modules to deepen your knowledge of managing global projects, project finance and project leadership, sustainable global value chains, managing risk, agility & contracts, professional exchange and applied research.

You can choose to do an applied business and research in project management based on independent research. Throughout your time with us, you'll learn how to collect and analyse information and data from a wide range of sources in order to enhance your understanding and insight into the topics you study.

We consistently review and develop our courses and modules to ensure they are up-to-date with sector and industry graduate skills demands. Course structure, modules, and options are subject to change.

How you'll learn

As a postgraduate student, you will be expected to conduct independent work and research, supported by our experienced academics. We will provide you with the tools and methods, including an online portal, to access business databases, real projects/industry cases, and other study sources.

Alongside private study, you will have plenty of contact with our team of lecturers with special expertise in project management, and learning through a mix of lectures, seminars, workshops, and guest speakers. The global business world thinks in project terms, and so do we.

Our staff's practice and research feed organically into their teaching. For example, The Course Leader, Dr Manish Unhale holds professional qualifications (PRINCE 2 Agile Practitioner) in project management and his research work includes collaborations in supply chain and sustainability. Dr Shazaib’s area of research is the global banking and finance system and Molly’s expertise in Project and Supply Chains. We also have other practitioners from project management who guide and supervise our students in research areas related to project management.

How does this benefit you? Great careers are built on real-world projects and a wide portfolio of relevant experience related to managing international projects. Nothing is more important than having academics who are experts in project management, and international business and genuinely interested in your student journey. We run a personal tutoring scheme and compile business projects and case studies from the industry. We also provide you with a number of business development support services via the Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability. Employability is more than a buzzword - we directly provide you with networking opportunities that connect to the modules you’re actually studying, and tangibly prepare you for your next career steps. We have successfully organised and hosted project management experts to speak to our students and provided networking opportunities to our students with them.

How you will be assessed

You'll be assessed through a mixture of different methods, allowing you to develop multiple study skills and demonstrate your abilities in a variety of ways. Seminars and interactive case studies characterise this course. Each module is assessed separately - there could be two pieces of assessment for a taught module.

The assessment technique could be an examination, course work, a group report, portfolio completion, a live assessment, group or individual presentation, reflective work based on a case study or live project, research work/report, dissertation etc. All students have to complete all core modules and all assessments count towards the Master's award.
