Pro Bono: For Good
Legal advice can be expensive and for people who are often going through difficult times, finding guidance can be a daunting experience. Our students, under the watchful eye of their supervisors, volunteer their time and expertise to help people navigate the legal jargon and forms.
The clinic offers advice on four key areas: Consumer rights, family law, tenants' rights and welfare applications. The students also draft information leaflets to help people understand legal hot topics in an accessible way.
During the COVID-19 pandemic the advice centre switched their advice online to continue to support people. The advice centre helped people assert their renter rights, claim Universal Credit and negotiate Child Arrangements Orders.
In the Business of Helping
The Tax and Accountancy Clinic offers small and medium enterprises a full range of advice and services. The clinic can provide financial statements, support self-assessment tax returns and advice to help them plan for the future.
Like the Legal Advice Centre, the Tax and Accountancy Clinic offered online services and specialised advice during the pandemic. The practical training has helped our local community to claim COVID-19 support and weather an unprecedented storm.
