UEL students celebrate graduation

Graduating students

UEL graduands celebrated their graduation at London’s ExCeL on 17 and 18 July 2019

UEL graduands celebrated their graduation at London’s ExCeL on 17 and 18 July 2019.

Nearly 2,000 University of East London (UEL) students graduated at the ExCel Centre on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 July 2019.

Cheered on by family and friends, graduates walked across the stage to shake hands with UEL Chancellor, Shabir Randeree CBE. The College of Professional Services graduated on 17 July and the Colleges of Arts, Technology and Innovation, and Applied Health and Communities graduated on 18 July.

Professor Amanda J Broderick, vice-chancellor and president of UEL, said: “The University of East London is one of the most diverse higher education institutions in the country, however our students all share the same qualities of endurance and resistance.

“Many of our students are the first in their families to go to university, the first among their friends to venture into the professional world of industry 4.0, and are often parents setting an example for their own children.

“Our graduates’ stories are unfolding and they are about to embark on a new chapter. I hope their journeys in life will be one of fulfilment and success and I wish them the best of luck as they progress into the future.”

Four honorary doctorates were also celebrated at the 2019 ceremonies:
• Lewis Iwu, Doctor of Letters
• Mike Jervis, Doctor of Education
• Mark Thurston, Doctor of Technology
• Wendy Matthews OBE, Doctor of Science

Graduates celebrated their achievements in the heart of London’s historic Royal Docks, creating the perfect location for smiles, celebrations and those all-important selfies.

Congratulations to all our 2019 summer graduates. Join in our online conversation at #UELGrad2019.
