UEL events management graduate wins prestigious industry award

Cariad Williams is achieving great things in the events and hospitality industry

University of East London (UEL) events management graduate Cariad Williams was honoured for her impressive work as a student at the Meetings Industry Association's miaList 2018 awards ceremony.

Cariad, who graduated from the University in 2018 with a first-class degree in BA (Hons) Events Management, won the MiaList's 'Graduate' award.

Cariad (pictured left) was chosen over peers from across the UK by an expert judging panel.

She said,“I was delighted and surprised to be told that my lecturer, Lisa Wyld, had put me forward for the award.

“To then be told that I had been shortlisted and then selected to receive this prestigious award was incredible. I was overwhelmed when I was presented with my award at the celebratory lunch, having listened to all the other nominees that had been recognised for their outstanding achievements within the meeting and events industry.”

The miaList awards celebrate outstanding and passionate individuals "who go above and beyond the call of duty" in the meetings, hospitality and events industry.

Cariad and Ms Wyld, who is director of UEL's Institute of Hospitality and Tourism, attended the miaList 2018 ceremony on 2 November at The Tower Hotel in London.

Ms Wyld said: “I was very proud of Cariad for winning this, especially as it's an industry-based award. It will make a real difference to her career opportunities in the future and the different directions she can take."

As a student, Cariad represented the University at the EMCup, a management competition for hotel schools across Europe. Cariad and her UEL peers won the prize for ‘Best Team Spirit’, and Cariad also took the trophy for ‘Best Idea’ during a mixed-team contest with students from across Europe. She currently works in guest relations with international events company AEG Europe at The O2 Arena in London.
