Third straight promotion for UEL Cricket
UEL Cricket have been promoted for the third year in succession after a crushing 166-run win over the University of Essex.
In a straight shoot out for promotion, UEL overwhelmed their opponents, with Sam Foster’s brilliant century helping his team to a score of 276 for 8. The total always looked too much for Essex, who were bowled out for just 110.
UEL won four games and lost just one this season, beating the University of Kent, University College London and Middlesex University, to secure top spot in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) South Eastern 2B table.
The promotion followed a rewarding indoor season, in which UEL finished as runners-up in the South East Region group stages, narrowly behind Canterbury Christ Church University.
UEL Cricket Coach Arfan Akram was delighted with another successful year for the team.
“2015 was another fantastic season, our third promotion in three years, meaning we will play in BUCS Tier 1”, he said. “There have been so many highlights, however the strength in squad and all the players contributing has pleased me the most. The team has trained hard and was very well led by Ali Wood. We are already looking forward to the 2016 season.”
