What is/was your overall experience as an international student studying at UEL?
The MA Filmmaking programme was intense with modules that taught us to push our limits and do our best. My professors were highly qualified, experienced, and super supportive. The modules included both practical and theoretical aspects of Filmmaking. This enabled me to pursue my PhD studies with an excellent supervisor and supervisory team. The facilities provided were worth the investment for my studies, with accommodation, library, film equipment, studios, labs, study rooms, Sports Dock, student unions, cafeteria, student support and job opportunities within the campus that supported and developed my career.
The biggest support I received was from the international office. Working with the most amazing leader, Mrs Virali Patel and a great team who understands the plight of an international student and values education. It was not just the financial support I received, I was able to learn about international relations in a closer context. I was proud to produce many short films, write stories and be awarded a PhD after many hurdles. Ashwin has become Dr Ashwin. A dream which was not only mine but also my family’s, which came true with the help of UEL.

What are your plans after graduation?
I have applied for a job as a Digital Content Creator in an educational institution back in my hometown. This will enable me to stay with my family, work in media and focus on pre-production and preparation for my feature film. I can connect and use time productively. My work experience and qualifications from UEL are the reason I got a job in such a short duration.
What advice would you give to prospective international students planning to study in the UK (with UEL)?
Explore, take advantage of UEL facilities, make memories to cherish forever, stay connected with your teachers and most importantly, don’t fear failure. Take the leap that many people hesitate to take. You have chosen to pursue an education and live in London, the city of dreams. Use it wisely.
