What is/was your overall experience as an international student studying at UEL?
I studied MSc Data Science at the University of East London in 2022/2023. I had never been to London before enrolling at UEL, but the orientation programmes, student support teams, and lecturers made the transition from work to academia seamless. The diversity of the modules increased my knowledge of how big data is used in tackling real-life issues such as crime, healthcare, and business analytics.
My most enjoyable experience while studying was the opportunity to compete in Amazon's annual Student Deep Racer competition. I also volunteered on The Crown Estate's Sustainability & Climate Change project, organised in collaboration with the School of Architecture, Computing, and Engineering. I also joined the University's Boat Club, which allowed me to row the River Thames between the Docklands Campus and London City Airport.

What are your plans after graduation?
Upon completing the MSc Data Science programme at UEL, I decided to take on the role of an International Student Ambassador at the university. This role provides me with the opportunity to share my experiences, offer admissions guidance(s), and contribute to the vibrant community at UEL. I am currently a Senior Data Insight Analyst at Moneymarque Finance, a financial technology firm that specialises in retail banking.
What advice would you give to prospective international students planning to study in the UK (with UEL)?
The UK has a diverse and multicultural environment, and with that in mind, attend orientation programmes and participate in activities that allow you to interact with both local and international students. Understand the terms of your student visa, including work restrictions, and keep track of important deadlines. Take advantage of UEL's support services, which include academic support, career guidance, counselling, and mental health.
Start researching accommodation options well in advance. UEL offers on-campus housing with considerable factors like proximity to campus, accessibility, amenities, and affordable, as campus accommodations are bill-inclusive. Finally, spend your off-term time exploring the country and immersing yourself in European architecture and landscapes.
