BHM Words in Motion
The Black Academy presents "BHM Words in Motion"
The Black Academy is delighted to invite you to an evening of sharing inspirational words and poetry by Black writers as part of UEL’s Black History Month calendar of events.
As BHM draws to a close, we’ll be hosting “BHM Words in Motion” – an event where we invite students and staff to share poems or prose written by Black writers, chosen because it resonates with them, that they would like to share with others. With a theme of “Legacy, Making Your Mark” register for the event, come along on the night, put your name down on the list to share your piece, and be ready to clap, snap and cheer each other, as we share our choice of inspirational words.
Imagine a speakeasy environment, with poets and spoken word performers – in this case you – sharing their piece bolstered by encouragement from the audience who are happy to listen, share and be inspired by your choice of poem or prose. Poets and spoken word artists - if you’d like to share an original piece, we’d love that too! Each contributor will have a maximum of five minutes to share their piece and tell the audience why the words resonate with them.
This virtual cabaret, open to everyone, is designed to be a celebration of the creative expression of Black poets, creatives, and essayists who have shared their words with the world as part of their legacy. The evening is designed for you to bring your words, bring a glass of something to drink and bring your enthusiasm for each other as we draw BHM 2020 to a close at UEL.
