fUEL festival 2019: A modern-day performance of 'Great Expectations'
UEL Performing Arts students re-imagine the Charles Dickens classic
Students from the second year of the Performing Arts BA (Hons) degree course present an ‘Immersive Gig-Theatre’ contemporary retelling of Charles Dickens’ classic Great Expectations. Set on the International Quarter London’s Summer Lawn in Westfield, Stratford, this seventy-minute interdisciplinary production sees the students performing their own devised work across the disciplines of acting, music and dance, interwoven with Dickens’ classic tale.
Directed by Co-Programme Leader of Performing Arts, Tristan Parkes, this marks his directorial return to Stratford since he musically directed the Welcome Ceremonies for the 2012 London Olympic Games, which saw him collaborate with the rock band Queen and the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain.
Great Expectations is part of fUEL festival, an annual week-long showcase of the talented students who study in the University of East London’s Performing Arts Department.
