Conferral of Honorary Doctorate on His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of the Ashanti
The Chancellor and the Chair of the Board of Governors from the University of East London will confer an Honorary Doctorate of Education upon His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of the Ashanti.
His Majesty became the 16th occupant of the Gold Stool on 16 April 1999. Since then, he has created programmes to help people throughout Ghana. These programmes are particularly focused on education, health, poverty, conflict resolution and the development of traditional leaders.
His Otumfuo Educational Fund has provided scholarships to tens of thousands of Ghanaian students. The foundation has also provided money to schools, allowing for new classrooms and furniture, housing for teachers, computers, books, and school uniforms.
Following a plaque unveiling in the afternoon and a Q&A/meeting with UEL students, the Order of Conferral for the main event is as follows:
