E-Factor is back! And with over 200 applications from our students and alumni, this is sure to be one of our best competitions yet.
On May 24, Natwest’s Bishopsgate headquarters will host five of UEL’s best entrepreneurs pitching it out to receive £6,000 in start-up funding and be crowned E-Factor Champion 2018.

Our 2018 finalists are:
Cocktails & Macarons, Saphsa Codling. MA Psychosocial Studies
Cocktails and Macarons is a start-up specialising in ready made cocktails, and delicious fresh macarons. They are seeking funding in order that they can build-up the brand via food, drink and wedding fairs and business events, as well as social media. By engaging with food and drink developers they hope to understand shelf-life and best presentation of their ready-made cocktail product, with the view to selling via retail channels.
One Thing Well, Jemima Garthwaite Msc Sustainability and Adaptation, Rebecca Dove, director
One Thing Well is taking a tech start-up started by Jemima and Rebecca, aimed at reviving the UK’s underused woodlands. Their mission is to help reinvigorate Britain’s forestry sector, and to reduce demand for imported timber. To achieve this, they are creating an online marketplace for the woodland world; a digital platform to connect woodland owners to a sustainable source of demand, and to allow those who need timber to source it easily and locally. Customers will see the journey their purchase has taken from the woodland to their hands.
Rebound Board, James Edmunds,BSc Product Design
Rebound Board is a product targeted at sports centres which will revolutionise the safety in the sports industry. Using clever design, Rebound Board is able to protect the users, whilst creating advertising space for businesses to advertise on. Sports Centres not only benefit from the product, but are also offered the ability to get the product free of charge.
Laaghas, Evans Mensah, BEng Mechanical Engineering
Evans has come up with the a idea of making sandwiches with waffles. He confesses it might be "Crazy" but almost a year later, thousands are sold and he is eager to turn Laaghas in to a fully-fledged business.
The Art of Life, Jessica o-George, MA Psychology
A membership model which takes a 360 Degree holistic approach to wellness aimed at the modern busy women. This lifestyle consultancy provides a dedicated lifestyle manager who provides custom made nutrition plans, time management systems alongside coaching and support to help individuals identify and reach health and lifestyle goals.
E-Factor is the University of East London’s business ideas competition for student and recent graduates. Successful applicants participate in an intensive development and mentoring programme, and the best five ideas go head-to-head in the grand final.
Previous winners have included vidiCREW and WOMMA Sportswear.
