UEL Athena SWAN presents International Women's Day 2018
'Women who inspire' exhibitions to be held at Docklands, USS and Stratford Water Lane campuses
International Women’s Day is 8 March.
This year, UEL has decided to recognise the day through an exhibition on each campus (Docklands, USS and Stratford Water Lane) that celebrates the successes of women. Given that 2018 marks the centennial since the first, but not all, women were given the right to vote, the exhibitions will be framed around the following themes:
Women Who Have Inspired Humanness
Women Who Have Inspired Social Transformation
Exhibitions will be held in the following spaces:
Docklands Campus, SportsDock, next to the café
There will be refreshments and informal networking from noon to 1 pm.
University Square Stratford, main foyer
There will also be be a panel discussion at 1 pm in USS.G.19-20: 'Female UEL Graduates and Students Driving Innovation and Sustainability in organisations and their own businesses'. The discussion will feature current and past female Business and Law students debating the role of women in driving innovation and sustainability in organisations and their own businesses today.
This will be followed by refreshments and networking.
Stratford Water Lane, ground floor foyer of the Cass/Education building
The exhibition will include a special display from 4 pm onward with 3D models and objects) on British Nobel Prize-winning chemist Dorothy Hodgkin, created in part by her granddaughter, UEL Cultural Studies Professor Kate Hodgkin. There will also be refreshments and informal networking at 4 pm,.
