The Body
FEBRUARY 2018 will see first year students from the BA Photography and BA Creative and Professional Writing programmes at the University of East London come together in a combined project. The two groups will produce a creative exhibition entitled The Body, which explores the interpretation of the human form.
The project began with a selection images from the Victoria & Albert Archive, which demonstrated the various ways the human form can be construed.
The collaboration uses photography and creative writing to discover cultural and progressive thinking in the 21st Century. Over a number of weeks, students have been given the opportunity to observe their responses to images they have chosen to interpret in a series of texts and pictures to explore themes such as gender identity, body distortion, masculinity and femininity and others.
With the two groups working together, the results have proven to be memorable and thought-provoking.
This exhibition aims to engage audience participation through a number of immersive projects, which we hope will stimulate conversation around modern-day stereotypes and ideologies.
