UEL Refugee Studies programme hosts 20th Anniversary Event in conjunction with Refugee Week 2017
In conjunction with Refugee Week 2017 and the 20th Anniversary of the MA in Refugee Studies programme at the University of East London, we are delighted to announce a special event on Wednesday 21st June at the UEL Campus in University Square, Stratford.
Initial details of the programme are outlined below and we hope to add more details over the coming weeks.
2pm: Welcome and Opening Remarks
Tea and coffee will be served from 1.30pm.
2.15pm to 3pm: MA Refugee Studies-20 Years on: Panel and Discussion
Panel reflects on how the Programme has grown over the last two decades.
3pm to 3.45pm: Educating Without Borders
Exploring the groundbreaking work undertaken by UEL offering access to University education to refugees and asylum seekers in the former Calais Jungle and in the UK through the Open Learning Initiative (OLIve) course.
3.45pm to 4.15pm: Break & networking sessions
Tea and coffee will be served.
4.15pm to 5pm: “Voices from the Jungle: Stories from the Calais Refugee Camp”
Extracts of “Voices” will be read during this session combined with a wider discussion on refugee narratives.
5pm to 5.45pm: Where do we go from here? Research, Teaching and Practice
Shaping the future with and for refugees. Alumni working in the sector, staff, refugees and students in conversation. Exploring best practices in responding to refugee issues and what lessons can be learned in helping to improve current studies, advocacy and practice.
5.45pm to 6pm: Building Bridges via Arts, Culture and Solidarity
Introduction to the Exhibitions, Civic Engagement projects and further discussion opportunities awaiting your investigation in the foyer outside.
6pm Onwards: Reception
Please feel free to bring any literature to share and discuss during the break and reception.
