FeMMuseTech, led by Senior Music Lecturer Dr Jo Thomas and supported by Athena Swan, was a series of events which encouraged women to engage with composition, music technology and leadership.
Dr Thomas’s music students spent months helping children at St John’s Church in Stratford compose and perform gospel music inspired by the biblical Resurrection. The workshops culminated in a performance during Sunday morning services at St John’s.
FeMMuseTech also hosted two research-oriented discussion and performance events, which were open to the public.
“It’s important to be able to share information about your learning with people that you’re learning with in the community, Dr Thomas said.
“The community is around you and you need to be able to work within it. The church is right in the centre of Stratford and our music students are here and they are visible,” she said.
