Transfer to UEL from another university
Transfer to UEL from another university
Can I transfer to UEL for a later year of study through Clearing?
Yes, if you’re a UK student looking to move to the University of East London for a September 2026 start, you can apply through Clearing.
UEL accepts applications from students wishing to transfer from another university and continue their studies with us, subject to meeting the relevant entry requirements and having suitable prior study.
How transferring through Clearing is different
Transferring through Clearing requires us to assess your previous study to determine the most appropriate point of entry onto your chosen course.
Year of entry - do you enter Year 1 or Year 2?
If you want to join Year 2 (Level 5) or Year 3 (Level 6) of an undergraduate programme, you can indicate your preferred year of entry as part of your application.
The year you enter will depend on your previous qualifications, completed modules and how closely your prior study matches the course you want to join at UEL.
Credit transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning
After you apply, our admissions team will ask you to provide transcripts from your current institution, or the most recent place you studied.
We review your previous academic study to determine whether your credits and prior learning can be recognised and whether you are eligible to enter Year 2 or Year 3.
Which UEL courses accept transfer students?
Many undergraduate courses may consider applications from transfer students through Clearing. Acceptance depends on course capacity, the availability of places in the relevant year of study and the suitability of previously completed modules.
If you are unsure whether your chosen course can accept transfer applicants, contact our admissions team before applying.

FAQs
What are the entry requirements to transfer to a university and apply for year 2 or year 3?
If you want to transfer to University of East London for 2-year or 3-year entry, you need to:
- Currently be studying on a course in an equivalent subject area
- Have achieved grades equal to the entry requirements for first-year entry (A-levels, international qualifications, foundation years, access courses or other relevant requirements)

What happens after I’ve applied and submitted my transcripts?
An academic from a relevant area of study will assess your previous learning, including programme content and level, and decide regarding the amount of credit that can be recognised towards your University of East London award.
I am an international student; can I still apply to transfer? Would my visa be affected?
Yes, you can apply if you are an international student. Alongside submitting your application, you should seek advice regarding the impact on your visa from our International Student Advice team by emailing them at isa@uel.ac.uk.
Will my student funding be affected?
Decisions on advanced entry are based on an academic assessment of your previous study. You should check your eligibility for student funding. For more information, visit our Fees and Funding page.
