That’s why we’ve introduced the First Year Essentials Kit – a package worth £1,000 for students who apply to UEL through Clearing this summer.

The First Year Essentials Kit is designed to help you settle into university with confidence. It includes support for everyday essentials, helping you focus on your studies and make the most of student life.


The package includes:

  • Support towards your travel costs.
  • Support towards your weekly food shop.
  • Entertainment perks.
  • Full access to our SportsDock gym to help you stay active and healthy.

Eligibility

The First Year Essential Kit is available to fee-assessed Home undergraduate students applying to UEL through Clearing for a full-time programme. The package is available for undergraduate courses starting in September 2026, with fees of £9,790. Allocation of the package is on a first-come first-serve basis (and may be withdrawn upon our courses reaching capacity), and dependant on Clearing offers being accepted within 7 days, and enrolment being fully completed by 28th September 2026.

What is the UEL Clearing Support Package (First Year Essentials Kit)?
 

The Clearing Support Package (First Year Essentials Kit) is a scheme that supports the late entry of UEL students living in the U.K. The scholarship aims to support the cost of travel, cost of living and study resources as they transition to UEL. The award is worth £1,020, in the first year of study for eligible applicants.

  • £400 cash payment towards travel
  • £400 groceries voucher (claim via UEL Aspire Cash)
  • £100 Entertainment voucher (claim via UEL Aspire Cash)
  • £120 One-year premium student gym membership at UEL SportsDock


Criteria

Students will only be eligible for an award if they meet all of the following criteria:

  • Starting an undergraduate degree for the first time at UEL in September 2026
  • Applying for an undergraduate degree at UEL through Clearing
  • Firmly accepted the University’s clearing offer within 7 days
  • Fee assessed as a Home student paying full time fees of £9,790 per year
  • Studying full-time
  • Studying at one of our campuses
  • Must be fully enrolled by the 28th September 2026

Excludes those studying:

  • With a collaborative partner
  • Via online or distance learning
  • In receipt of NHS funding


Application process

There is no application necessary. There are a limited number of awards available. Awards will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis, until all packages have been awarded. All decisions are final. Allocation of the package is dependent on the Clearing offer being accepted within 7 days, and enrolment being fully completed by 28th September 2026.

UEL will notify successful students of the provisional nomination during Clearing 2026. The scholarship will only be confirmed once student has firmly accepted their place within 7 days of the offer being made and fully enrolled by 28th September 2026. All communication will be sent by email.

UEL is under no obligation to award all scholarships, should the quality of the applications be insufficient.

Payment details

Payment / vouchers will be made via UEL Aspire by the end of October 2026 via open banking technology, for fully enrolled students who have met all the eligibility criteria and have a confirmed award. Students can access their award within minutes.

Awarded students will receive an email from student.info@uel-aspire.co.uk, providing guidance to receive payment of their award and vouchers. Emails will be sent to UEL student accounts only.

Failure to claim the award within 2 months of the notification email may result in award cancellation.

The award will not be made if you have overdue debt to UEL – this includes not having Student Finance in place.


General terms and conditions

The package will be allocated in academic year 2026/27. It will not be renewed or extended beyond this term to cover repeat modules or years.

Any award is subject to successful enrolment on a course at UEL in 2026/27 and commitment to the full academic calendar.

If an awardee decides to change programmes, the student will be entitled to keep the scholarship provided that the new course and mode of study still meet the eligibility criteria. All changes must be approved by the Director of Student Recruitment.

If an awardee decides to withdraw, the package will terminate at the date of withdrawal. Any payments made will not need to be returned.

The package cannot be exchanged for an alternative award.

If the student’s status changes during their study due to information not being provided at the point of application, and the student becomes ineligible, UEL reserves the right to revoke the scholarship and reclaim any payments made.

If a student breaks UEL regulations and is withdrawn from study, the scholarship will be immediately revoked and will not be re-awarded if the student returns at a later date.

Students awarded the package must support the University with future promotion of UEL through ambassadorial work, equivalent to ten hours unpaid work. This includes a photo, testimonial profile and video testimonial as a minimum.

UEL reserves the right to verify applications and request additional evidence.

If you are in receipt of welfare benefits, scholarships and bursaries may affect your entitlement as they can be treated as income. Starting a course is a change of circumstance and you should inform all relevant benefit offices when you enrol.

We reserve the right to modify, substitute, or withdraw any component of the package at our discretion. Reasonable efforts will be made to provide advance notice.

A complaint is normally a specific concern related to a procedural error or maladministration in admissions procedures. If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of the administration of your scholarship, please contact us in writing at studentfunding@uel.ac.uk.

How do I apply?

There is no application necessary. Clearing applications will be assessed and where the criteria is met, you will be informed of a provisional allocation. Successful allocation will be based on completing all aspects of the eligibility criteria.

Once you have firmly accepted your UEL Clearing offer and completed enrolment, the university will contact eligible students with information about receiving their support package. Awards are distributed through UEL Aspire, and students will receive guidance via their UEL student email account. To avoid missing important updates, applicants should regularly check their inbox and complete all enrolment steps by the published deadlines.
