The First Year Essentials Kit
At the University of East London, we’re committed to breaking down barriers and making higher education accessible to everyone, regardless of background or circumstances.
That’s why we’ve introduced the First Year Essentials Kit – a package worth £1,000 for students who apply to UEL through Clearing this summer.
The First Year Essentials Kit is designed to help you settle into university with confidence. It includes support for everyday essentials, helping you focus on your studies and make the most of student life.
The package includes:
- Support towards your travel costs.
- Support towards your weekly food shop.
- Entertainment perks.
- Full access to our SportsDock gym to help you stay active and healthy.
The First Year Essentials Kit is part of our wider commitment to affordability, inclusion and student success. We believe your focus should be on building your future, not worrying about your finances.
Eligibility
The First Year Essential Kit is available to fee-assessed Home undergraduate students applying to UEL through Clearing for a full-time programme. The package is available for undergraduate courses starting in September 2026, with fees of £9,790. Allocation of the package is on a first-come first-serve basis (and may be withdrawn upon our courses reaching capacity), and dependant on Clearing offers being accepted within 7 days, and enrolment being fully completed by 28th September 2026.
Terms and conditions
How do I apply?
There is no application necessary. Clearing applications will be assessed and where the criteria is met, you will be informed of a provisional allocation. Successful allocation will be based on completing all aspects of the eligibility criteria.

How much could I save with the UEL Clearing Support Package?
Eligible students can receive support worth up to £1,020 during their first year at UEL. This includes £400 towards travel costs, a £400 grocery voucher, a £100 entertainment voucher, and a one-year premium SportsDock gym membership worth £120. The package is designed to help reduce the upfront costs of starting university and make student life more affordable.
Why is UEL offering a Clearing Support Package?
Starting university can come with significant costs, from commuting and food shopping to fitness and social activities. UEL's Clearing Support Package is designed to help eligible students settle into university life with greater financial confidence while accessing the opportunities, facilities and support available on campus from day one.
What happens after I accept my Clearing offer?
Once you have firmly accepted your UEL Clearing offer and completed enrolment, the university will contact eligible students with information about receiving their support package. Awards are distributed through UEL Aspire, and students will receive guidance via their UEL student email account. To avoid missing important updates, applicants should regularly check their inbox and complete all enrolment steps by the published deadlines.
