Our architecture courses hold the unconditional recognition of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), giving exemption from Part 1 of the RIBA Examination, one of the three stages required to register as an architect in the UK. 

Our BSc (Hons) Architectural Design Technology is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT), allowing graduates to become Associate Members upon completion.

The UEL Careers Guarantee

Architecture and design courses at UEL in London open doors across construction, the built environment and the creative industries. Apply for an architecture or interior design degree through Clearing and roles graduates go on to include:

Postgraduate study at UEL includes MArch Architecture (ARB/RIBA Part 2), MA Architecture and Urbanism, MA Interior Design, MA Professional Landscape Architecture and MSc Robotic Construction.

UEL's design studios sit at the heart of every architecture and design course in London, where you learn by doing from day one. You pitch live design projects to panels of practitioners, work in wood, metal and digital fabrication workshops, and take part in an annual overseas study trip to see buildings and design culture first-hand.

You'll use industry-standard software including AutoCAD, Revit, BIM and Rhino, and state-of-the-art fabrication facilities including CNC milling, 3D printing and a five-axis robot. Architecture students take part in Constructionarium, partnering with a major contractor on a real build, and have visited live sites including the Tate Modern Extension and Canary Wharf Crossrail station. Product Design students compete at New Designers, a leading graduate showcase in central London.

UEL is home to Sugarcrete®, the multi-award-winning carbon-neutral building material developed by UEL's Architecture and Sustainability Research Institute teams. Made from sugarcane waste, it has a carbon footprint six times smaller than traditional clay bricks, has been used to build the first school of its kind in India, and recently passed one of construction's toughest fire safety trials. Studying architecture or design at UEL means learning inside the same school that's developing genuinely ground-breaking solutions to one of construction's biggest challenges.

Yes. Our flagship BSc (Hons) Architecture programme is fully validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and prescribed by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) for Part 1 exemption. Securing a place through Clearing ensures you are on the official, legally recognised pathway to qualifying as a registered architect in the UK.

Yes, applicants for our architecture and interior design courses are typically required to submit a digital portfolio or attend an online interview. We look for 10 to 15 examples of your creative work, which can include freehand drawings, sketches, photography, 3D models, paintings, or graphic design. We are more interested in your spatial awareness, experimental thinking, and creative process than highly technical blueprints.
