Accepted a Clearing offer? Here's what happens next

1. Confirm your Clearing offer properly

A verbal or email offer is an important first step, but you normally still need to confirm it formally. If you applied through UCAS, follow the instructions in your offer email and add the course as your Clearing choice in UCAS Hub. Only add the choice after the university has given you permission to do so.

For a UEL offer, check the timeframe in your email. We explain the acceptance process in our Clearing FAQs. If you applied directly rather than through UCAS, your email may contain a separate acceptance form and instructions for uploading your qualifications.

Once the university confirms the choice, your status should update. This is your Clearing offer confirmation, so check that the course title, study level, start date and campus are all correct.

2. Send any documents the university requests

Admissions may need copies of your qualifications, identification or evidence connected with your fee status. Some courses also require an interview, portfolio, audition or additional checks.

Do not assume the university already has every document because you mentioned your results on the phone. Upload anything requested through the correct applicant portal and keep the original files somewhere easy to find. UEL says applicants who are not using UCAS may be asked to upload qualifications within 48 hours, so acting quickly can prevent delays.

3. Update or apply for student finance

Finding your course through Clearing does not stop you applying for student finance. If you already applied but your university or course has changed, update the details in your student finance account as soon as possible.

Processing can take time, particularly around results day. Your funding may arrive later if the information does not match your confirmed course. UEL's guide to student finance and Clearing explains what to update and what to do if your application is still being assessed.

This is one of the most important Clearing next steps, even if you are planning to live at home. Your tuition fee loan and any maintenance support still need to be connected to the right university and course.

4. Apply for accommodation or plan your commute

If you want to live in halls, apply once you have accepted your offer. Clearing applicants are not automatically too late for accommodation, but available rooms can change quickly.

Commuting instead? Work out the door-to-door journey rather than looking only at the distance on a map. Check early-morning travel, the cost of a weekly or monthly ticket and how you would get home after evening teaching or social events.

5. Complete enrolment

Enrolment confirms your details, how your tuition fees will be paid and your agreement to the University's terms. It is not just an administrative formality: you must complete it to keep your place and gain access to your timetable and university systems.

UEL will email you when online enrolment opens. Follow the instructions on the enrolment page and contact the University if something in your record is wrong. Keep checking the personal email address you used during your application, including the junk folder.

6. Get ready for your first weeks

After the urgent admin is complete, you can start thinking about university life. UEL's Getting Started hub includes support with accommodation, making friends, academic skills, digital preparation and life in London.

For September 2026 starters at UEL, Welcome Fest is on 21 September, Welcome Week from 21 to 25 September and the start of teaching on 28 September. Dates can change, so use the key dates page rather than relying on an old screenshot or social post.

• Check that UCAS and the university show the correct course.
• Upload qualifications or other requested documents.
• Apply for or update student finance.
• Apply for accommodation or plan your commute.

Is a Clearing offer guaranteed once I receive the email?

The email should explain whether the offer is conditional or unconditional and what you must do to accept it. Read the conditions carefully. Your place is not fully secured if you have missed an acceptance deadline or still need to provide evidence.

How long does it take for a Clearing offer to appear in UCAS?

It may not update immediately. Make sure you have added the correct choice and followed the university's instructions. If the status remains unchanged or your application is marked as pending, contact the university's Clearing or admissions team.

Can I still get accommodation after accepting through Clearing?

Often, yes, although room availability is not guaranteed. Apply as soon as you can and consider your preferred room, budget and commuting alternatives.

What should I do if my student finance is still linked to another university?

Update your application with your new university and course details. Keep evidence of the change and check your online account for requests for more information.
