Pension contribution

UEL’s standard teaching pension ranges from 31.08 per cent to 35.38 per cent. You’ll contribute 7.4 per cent
to 11.7 per cent (depending on your grade) and we contribute 23.68 per cent to maintain the scheme.

Death in Service

The benefit we hope you never need. Three times your pensionable salary is payable for all members of the pension scheme.

Holiday

You'll receive 30 days per year, plus bank holidays. We usuaally close for three days during Christmas, so you should gain an extra three days.

Hybrid and Flexible Working

Most of our roles are open to some hybrid and flexible working. However, this is dependent on the duties and responsibilities of the role and won’t be available for all roles.

Healthcare Cashback

We provide access to the Simply Health cashback scheme so you can cover yourself and family at the right level for you.

Employee Discount Portal

Discounts on a wide range of items including tech products (including Apple/Samsung etc.) to holidays and naturally occurring retail spending from food shopping, dining out, clothing, DIY to cinemas. In March 2023 our ‘Success Together’ retail discount card will launch. This is a UEL-branded pre-pay Visa debit card which provides access to discounts (averaging saving of 7.5 per cent) at 94 retailers such as Argos, Asda, B&Q, Boots, Halfords, M&S, New Look, Pizza Hut, Primark, River Island, Sainsburys, Waterstones, Wilko and Zizzi among others.

Cycle to Work Scheme

This offers you an average discountof over 30 per cent for purchase of bikes and accessories with no minimum spend. The maximum cost is £3,000 allowing the purchase of e-bikes.

Volunteering Leave

We offer you an additional two days perannum on full pay for any charitable work. This is a time matching scheme, so you’ll need to do four days volunteering using two days from your holiday entitlement.

Eye Care Vouchers

We’ve partnered with Specsavers and we will pay for your examination as well as making a contribution to the cost of the frames.

Rail Tickets

We offer an interest free loan for the purchase of rail tickets.

Employee Assistance Programme

We’re all human and sometimes need some extra support. We offer you free and confidential access to a range of counselling and support services to help manage difficult situations. You can also access eight free counselling sessions.

Relocation assistance

This may be available depending on your individual circumstances.

Gym Membership

Full gym (Docklands campus) access is available to all UEL employees for £24 per month.

Car Parking

Car parking is available at all our campuses.

Docklands campus

Our Docklands campus provides beautiful views overlooking the river next to City Airport and is only a few stops from the Elizabeth Line. 

We’re an open university campus with 24-hour security offering you loads of facilities including: Costa Coffee, coffee bar (free coffee every Friday at 10-11am), canteen (free breakfasts every Wednesday morning), gym, shop and a bar that are all less than 100metres from Cyprus DLR station.

Stratford campus

Our Stratford campus is in a vibrant area with loads of shops, bars, and restaurants on the doorstep, all within a few minutes’ walk from the Maryland and Stratford stations.

University Square Stratford (USS)

Our University Square Stratford (USS) campus is situated in the heart of Stratford’s business, arts and enterprise district, minutes away from amenities such as Westfield Stratford City, Theatre Royal and Picturehouse cinema. 

An impactful building at the heart of UEL’s careers-first mission, the campus features a mock courtroom, Trading Floor, Strategy and Marketing Analytics Lab, Tax & Accountancy Clinic and Boardroom Simulator.

Overnight accommodation

Ensuite rooms are available at our Docklands campus for all employees, at highly competitive rates. This is a popular benefit and should be booked in advance to ensure availability.

We have a discretionary and noncontractual shared success bonus scheme with a value of up to £5,000 in the 23/24 academic year.

The Shared Success Award amount is subject to annual review and is not a contractual bonus. It's subject to eligibility criteria, is taxable and non-pensionable.
