Sustainability league tables and rankings
UEL rises in People and Planet sustainability league table
The University of East London (UEL) has improved its position in the People and Planet University League, rising 46 places to 66th in the 2025 rankings. This places UEL in the 2:1 award class, which recognises strong overall environmental and ethical performance.
The People and Planet University League is the UK’s only comprehensive and independent ranking of universities based on environmental and ethical criteria. It is published annually by People and Planet, the UK’s largest student campaigning network.
UEL’s improved ranking reflects the publication of key policies and performance data, including audits covering:
- waste management
- travel and transport
- sustainable procurement
- energy use
- emissions and discharges
The University scored particularly highly in the following areas:
- education for sustainable development
- staff and student engagement
- workers’ rights
- carbon reduction
- sustainable food
The Sustainability team, based in Estates and Facilities, will build on this progress in 2026 by focusing on:
- ethical careers
- ethical investment
- improving waste and recycling performance
