We have installed a biomass boiler in SportsDock, our sports building. The biomass boiler maintains a background level of heat for our sports facilities so we only use our gas boilers to top this up on colder days when we need extra heat. We use biomass pellets from a sustainable wood fuel supplier so we can be sure that we are running the boiler from a renewable source and can claim money from the government under the Renewable Heat Incentive. In fact, UEL receives around £3,500 per year for running this renewable technology on campus.
