Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability (RDCS)
The Royal Docks Centre for Sustainability (RDCS) is UEL’s hub for sustainability, enterprise, innovation and civic collaboration.
Formerly known as Knowledge Dock, the building has been refurbished to provide specialist facilities and practice-based centres, including
- Makerspace
- the London Renewable Energy Lab
- London Renewable Materials Lab
- TerraDock
- the Rix Inclusive Centre
- the AR/VR Lab
- the STEAM Community Support Centre and a Community Hub.
Funded through London's Good Growth Fund, RDCS supports inclusive growth by creating pathways into skills, employment, enterprise and research that respond to local needs and global challenges.
Its work focuses on:

- Enterprise and business growth
- Applied research and innovation
- Community empowerment and inclusion
Neighbourhood Health Hub
The Neighbourhood Health Hub is designed to be the UK's first university-based centre providing integrated specialist care beyond standard GP services, without requiring a hospital visit.
The hub focuses on prevention and early intervention while supporting UEL's practice-based approach to learning. Students will gain real-world experience in healthcare settings while developing professional skills.
The hub aims to:
- Help families build healthier lives
- Support people to stay active and return to work
- Reduce health inequalities across the local community
- New Academic Building, Stratford
The £45 million New Academic Building is a major addition to UEL's Stratford Health Campus and is expected to open in July 2027.
The building will support UEL's Practice Makes Professional curriculum and include:
- Advanced clinical skills centres
- A prototype university primary care facility
- Expanded placement opportunities for healthcare students
The development will help connect research, teaching and community health services while supporting the future workforce needs of health and social care.
The project also includes academic facilities, healthcare spaces and green social areas designed to create a welcoming environment for students and the wider community.
New Academic Building – Stratford Redevelopment Project
The building is currently on track to achieve BREEAM Outstanding, one of the highest standards for sustainable building design, recognising performance in areas such as energy efficiency and carbon reduction.
UEL is also targeting WELL Gold certification, which focuses on creating healthy indoor environments through measures such as improved air quality, natural light and occupant comfort.
Together, these standards support UEL's ambition to create buildings that are environmentally sustainable and designed around the wellbeing of the people who use them.
