Strategic Plan
Our vision
The Office for Institutional Equity aims to make UEL the UK’s most inclusive and equitable university. We work to establish a respectful, anti-racist, environment for students and staff; a higher education space which promotes their success and creates a sense of belonging for them at UEL, whilst honouring the University's public sector equality duty.
Our guiding principles
Foster inclusivity through a strong commitment to equality, diversity & inclusion and by promoting an inclusive student-ready culture.
Promote the success of students and staff, enabling them to realise their potential and achieve social mobility. This will be done through a data-driven practice approach that centres on inclusive teaching, learning, and assessment, as well as inclusive staff recruitment and retention.
Enhance the belonging of students and staff by encouraging strong relationships that lead to feelings of mutual respect, value and dignity.
Promote equitable culture and practice through advocacy, education, training and recognition arising from Equality Charter awards.
In the UK, we have been very successful with access to university through the widening participation agenda, but this hasn't resulted in equity of outcomes. If you are Black or Ethnic Minority, or are disabled, or are a mature student, then you are less likely to get a good degree, and therefore less likely to get into a professional job."
