Saurabh Malik's story
Saurabh Malik's story
The international exposure I gained in London proved invaluable, enhancing my interpersonal skills, and facilitating international assignments in the USA, Australia, and beyond.
My decision to study at UEL stemmed from its reputation in financial education, coupled with its affordability and job-oriented employability programme. The vibrant multicultural environment of London added to its appeal, fostering a global mindset crucial for my career.
One of my fondest memories at UEL was participating in their employability programme, particularly a sponsored 6-month mentoring programme with Credit Suisse London. This experience provided me with invaluable guidance and exposure to the banking and finance industry, ultimately leading to a full-time job opportunity in London.
After completing my MSc in Financial Management at UEL in 2011, I began my professional journey as a Branch Banking Officer at ICICI Bank UK Plc in London. Over the years, I transitioned through roles at MetLife Global Operations Support Centre and Genpact India Pvt. Ltd., gaining valuable experience in investment banking operations and process improvement, culminating in earning my Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certificate in 2017.
Subsequently, I served as an Operations Manager at Wells Fargo Investment Bank India and an Associate Director at UBS Investment Bank India, solidifying my expertise in financial management and project leadership.
Now I’m a Programme Manager (Assistant Vice President) at HSBC Bank India Pvt. Ltd., overseeing a team within the Risk domain of HSBC Asset Management Group.
To current UEL students, I recommend seizing every learning and career development opportunity available on campus. Actively engage in mentoring programmes, internships, and student exchange options to gain diverse experiences and build professional networks early on. Hard work, coupled with a focus on skills and experiences, will pave the way for rewarding careers upon graduation.
