Meet Seth
University of East London - #BeTheNext Humanitarian - Seth Hunter
Seth Hunter is making the case for a radical change in the way we deliver mental health care.
He co-founded the Dragon Café in Central London – a wellbeing centre designed to help people suffering from mental health issues find support – and works with RE:CREATE Psychiatry to advocate for a new approach to care provision.
The road to wellbeing
His passion for wellbeing stems from his own experience, having a father who suffered from addiction issues and bipolar disorder, as well as suffering himself with addiction issues earlier in his life.
Seth came to UEL to study International Development with NGO Management, looking for a way to gain the skills and connections he’d need to enter the wellbeing sector and make a genuine difference to people that could benefit from help.
He came to understand that many mental health problems are caused by isolation, so he set up Dragon Café to give people the chance to explore creativity and human connection as a means of combating mental health problems. Seth has seen people flourish in this welcoming, supportive environment that might otherwise have struggled to make progress.
RE:CREATE Psychiatry is a sister project that aims to discover ‘how mental health services can be made to be more healing, more human, and more creative for everyone’.
