Our fundraising approach
Ethical fundraising at UEL
The University of East London is deeply committed to fostering a culture of philanthropy that supports our educational community and research missions. Philanthropic contributions that support the mission and values, including monetary gifts, property, shares, and legacies across all university locations and affiliated organisations, are welcomed.
Adhering to the highest ethical standards in all fundraising activities is a priority. This includes maintaining integrity in relationships with donors and ensuring that all gifts are used in a manner consistent with the donor's intentions and the University's mission.
All gifts are processed in compliance with legal regulations, and regular reports on the use and impact of donations are provided. Responsibility in managing all contributions in alignment with the intentions of donors is ensured.
Recognition and respect for the rights of donors are prioritised. This includes ensuring confidentiality, providing appropriate recognition, and maintaining transparency in how contributions are utilised. Donors are informed about the impact of their contributions and the ethical use of donations.
Careful evaluation of all potential gifts is conducted to ensure they align with our mission and values. The University reserves the right to decline gifts that do not meet these criteria or could potentially harm its reputation. Commitment to ethical fundraising, avoiding conflicts of interest, and ensuring donations do not influence academic freedom or research directions are upheld.
Fundraising efforts are strategically planned and overseen by internal and external bodies that review significant gifts and maintain ethical fundraising practices.
For more information or to discuss contributions, donors are encouraged to contact the Head of Development, Dimitra Filippou at fundraising@uel.ac.uk.
Guidance and support to donors throughout the giving process are dedicatedly provided.
