2025 June Alumni of the Month
Tine Kovacic, MSc Physiotherapy, 2003
Why did you choose to study at UEL?
I chose the University of East London as the MSc Physiotherapy wasn't available in Slovenia. I was encouraged by my mentor, and I pursued this to meet the growing need for skilled educators, inspired by peers' positive UEL feedback.
What is your one special memory of your time at UEL?
My special memory at UEL is my personal tutor's encouragement. All the lecturers were amazing, inspiring us in clinical reasoning, evidence-based physiotherapy, and the importance of research in our field.
What have you done since graduating from UEL?
Since graduating from UEL, I have led a medical rehabilitation service for children with developmental disorders, and I have completed my PhD and earned promotion as an Assistant Professor.
What is your current job role? And what does it involve?
I am the Head of Medical Rehabilitation Services and work with children with developmental disorders and the Head of the postgraduate Physiotherapy programme at Alma Mater Europaea University.
How did UEL help you get to where you are now?
UEL gave me incredible breadth, international experience, and new knowledge. It reinforced the belief that knowledge is power and an enduring strength that no one can take away but can be shared.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Trust the process, be patient, and never stop learning. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and remember that persistence and hard work always pay off in the end.
What advice would you give to UEL current students preparing to graduate?
Be grateful to your professors for their guidance and support. Embrace the light of knowledge they share with you as a beacon that illuminates the darkness of ignorance in the world.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know:
I practice yoga and volunteer to teach healthy spine-focused yoga classes for the local community.
If you were to do it all again, would you still choose UEL?
Absolutely yes! UEL has given me so much knowledge, experience, and personal growth. I am truly grateful for the opportunities and support I received, which shaped both my career and who I am today.
