Why did you choose to study at UEL?
I chose to study at UEL as I was eager to study MSc Structural Engineering and the core engineering values engraved in the 1992 polytechnic meant it was inevitable for me to embark on this journey & develop my CPD. Additionally, the beautiful Docklands campus was another highlight which brought me to choose UEL.
What is your one special memory of your time at UEL?
My special memory at UEL were the EWB Design Challenges I undertook in 2020 and 2021. Financial barriers did not limit my ability to lead my team to the National Finals where I steered UEL to the top 3.6% & 2.6% in the UK & Ireland.
What have you done since graduating from UEL?
Since graduating from UEL, I won 2nd (Silver) for the EON-XR (Augmented & Virtual Reality Project) competition in the School of ACE. I highlighted the benefits of using VR in structural engineering.
What is your current job role? And what does it involve?
My current job role is a junior structural engineer in a well-established firm, and I also simultaneously conduct structural engineering research. I also still perform the previous roles mentioned above.
How did UEL help you get to where you are now?
The senior lecturers at UEL were amazing, (particularly Dr Jawed Qureshi, Dr Ali Abbas and Dr Arya Assadi Langroudi) in teaching and helping me grasp crucial concepts which were part of how I developed to be a structural engineer.
What advice would you give your younger self?
I would advise my younger self to remember that: ‘Life is limited, so look for the golden opportunities. Regardless of the tests in life (educational, financial, or social), never let them bring you down. Prioritise your future and be the best version of yourself.
What advice would you give to UEL current students preparing to graduate?
I would advise current students to: ‘Take down key notes from your lecturers and never despise them. They often help in one form or another, whether you’re doing an exam, project, or laboratory work’. Also remember that ‘Indeed, with hardship will be ease’.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know:
I play basketball and go that extra mile to increase my potential of becoming the best version of myself. It is not just about becoming the professional you wished for, I believe it is about excelling within it.
If you were to do it all again, would you still choose UEL?
I would choose UEL all over again without a shadow of a doubt! The exciting journey I experienced from being given my unconditional offer, through to testing in the state-of-the-art laboratories, and graduating is an amazing memory!
