Why did you choose to study at UEL?
I was drawn to UEL because of its renowned film, video, and new screen media graduate studies programme. I saw it as the perfect opportunity to dive into my first feature film project.
What is your one special memory of your time at UEL?
One cherished memory stands out vividly: singing tunes from the film ‘Sarafina’ with my dear friend Siyanda under the moonlight on the UEL Docklands Campus. Our friendship blossomed in those moments.
What have you done since graduating from UEL?
Since graduating, I've remained dedicated to my path in filmmaking, with hopes of returning to London to complete my next project, "Flowers Don't Grow In England.
What is your current job role? And what does it involve?
I currently work full-time as a filmmaker, where my role involves all aspects of film production, from concept development to post-production.
How did UEL help you get to where you are now?
UEL helped me progress to where I am now by providing excellent learning resources, and access to cutting-edge technology including: "The Matrix," a black box by Sony, which taught us about multi-level streaming before it became mainstream.
What advice would you give your younger self?
My advice would be to take your time and savour every moment and it would be beneficial to journal your experiences, as each step of your journey is worth remembering.
What advice would you give to UEL current students preparing to graduate?
My advice to UEL current students would be to ensure they forge strong connections with their professors and mentors. I still maintain contact with my graduate professors using social platforms such as Facebook.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know:
I shot my first feature film as a graduate student with no budget. It was a challenging yet rewarding experience which taught me the true essence of filmmaking.
If you were to do it all again, would you still choose UEL?
Absolutely! My time in the video department at UEL was incredibly enriching, and I wouldn't trade it for anything else.
