Why did you choose to study at UEL?
My choice to study at UEL was a natural step for me in life. Firstly, UEL was a local university, so not too far for me to travel. Furthermore, upon visiting the campus, I had an amazing experience at the open day, where everyone was very helpful and encouraging, so I knew instantly this was the perfect university for me.
What is your one special memory of your time at UEL?
My one special memory at UEL was my graduation day and to graduate in front of my friends and family, all cheering me on was an amazing feeling. This was the most memorable event ever and for it to happen to me was unexpected.
What have you done since graduating from UEL?
Since graduating from UEL, I volunteer through Young Enterprise and am one of their longest standing volunteers. I also write poetry and am currently writing some new material which I will also be performing.
What is your current job role? And what does it involve?
I currently work in the Beckton Globe Library as a Community Hubs Assistant. This involves keeping the stock tidy and I assist residents with IT and self-service applications.
How did UEL help you get to where you are now?
UEL taught me that with my degree in humanities, I can engage with things critically and analytically. This led to me using my initiative to operate a ‘Microbit‘ computer without supervision.
What advice would you give your younger self?
I would advise my younger self to ‘just go for it’ and not to listen to what others say about you, as if you want it enough, you will find a way to make it happen.
What advice would you give to UEL current students preparing to graduate?
The race to life is long and hard and there is no Vangelis in the background. There will come a time when you realise, you are running against yourself. There's nobody else.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know:
The first musical I was taken to see was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. I have over 300 pairs of earrings and my godmother was from Singapore.
If you were to do it all again, would you still choose UEL?
I would choose UEL all over again, however I would probably choose a different subject, such as Creative writing.
