UEL are proud to champion equality and diversity. We are a member of the following networks and organisations.

Athena SWAN

UEL has been recognised with an Athena SWAN bronze award for its work supporting gender equality. Athena SWAN is a charter managed by the Equality Challenge Unit which aims to support and encourage universities to work towards gender equality. The Bronze award recognises UEL's commitment to, and success in, supporting gender equality. The recognition is valid until 2021.

Disability Confident

UEL is now part of the Disability Confident scheme.

Race Equality Charter

UEL has signed up to the Race Equality Charter (REC) with a view to submitting in February 2019.

The charter is managed by the Equality Challenge Unit which aims to support and encourage universities to work towards race equality through improving the representation, progression and success of minority ethnic staff and students within higher education.

Stonewall

Through our membership of Stonewall, we aim to ensure our community is inclusive of all and to ensure all lesbian, gay, bi and trans people have the support to enable to reach their potential.

Wise

University of East London are proud to be a member of the WISE Campaign (which promotes women in science, technology and engineering). All employees and students (all genders) can join as individual members for FREE.

Working Families provides access to resources, leading edge research and guidance to support our aims to ensure a family friendly working environment.

Staff Networks

Women's Network

The Women’s Network provides a useful and supportive networking environment that enhances career development and progression, encouraged through peer support as well as providing a safe space in which to share experiences, opportunities, ideas and concerns. Events are hosted at least once a semester.

LGBT Network

The University of East London LGBT Staff Network champions the positive development of LGBT related equality and diversity support and representation within the university. The Network comprises of both LGBT staff and also straight allies.

Spectrum

Spectrum is a network to support our BAME (Black and Ethnic Minority) staff in career development and progression. A supportive environment is allows network members to share experiences and ideas in a safe space.
