Yassmin V. Foster, based in London, UK, is an academic, artist, and sound (system) woman dedicated to advancing dance studies in academia. She challenges the notion that Black-created movement and dance lack scholarly merit, fostering inclusive and critical discourse in dance education.

As a Stuart Hall PhD Scholar at Goldsmiths, University of London, Yassmin researches “Lovers’ Rock: The Production and Embodiment of Space by Black Communities in Britain 1970s – 1980s.” She holds a BA (Hons) in Anthropology and Media and an MA in Choreomundus – International Master’s in Dance, Knowledge, Practice, and Heritage. Her extensive experience in arts, culture, and education informs her teaching, emphasising diverse narratives in dance.

Yassmin has presented her research in the UK and the US. Her multidisciplinary portfolio includes roles such as Director of Laying the Ground (BBC Taster - Dance Passion 2021), and Movement Director for Queens of Sheba (Winner! 2020 OFF WEST END AWARDS Best Performance Piece, Edinburgh Untapped Award 2018 and The Stage Edinburgh Festival Award 2018. She champions cross-cultural, multi-art form collaborations, advocating for dance as intangible cultural heritage and empowering learners to explore diverse dance histories and practices.
