Professor Richards is a clinical academic vascular surgeon. He is an Honorary Professor at the Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology, University College London (UCL), an Honorary Professor of Anaesthesia at Monash University and retains an Honorary Professor post at the Western Australian universities (UWA, Curtin & Murdoch). He is a practising vascular surgeon with both the UK FRCS and Australian FRACS qualifications, licensed to practise in both countries.

RESEARCH
Professor Richards specialises in clinical trials and translational research. He developed the WA CTU with over a dozen active trials and integration with the Australian National Phenome Centre for Translational Research. He is CI for several international trials including ITACS, PREVENTT, POSTvenTT, SUNRRISE, ECST2, CAVIAR, CREST-2 and POISE-3, all focussed on peri-operative medicine, surgery and anaesthesia.
Overall; 206 manuscripts; 58% in the top 10% journals, i10 index 130, H-index 55, SciVal 2.57: with >12,000 citations, with >35,000 downloads. He is an advocate for collaborative manuscripts (joint authorship).
Professor Richards is a regular speaker at Anaesthetic, Haematology and Surgical conferences (15-25p.a.) and was a visiting Professor at the Alfred Hospital in 2016 and has undertaken several lecture tours through China, Singapore and Asia.
