Overview
Teresa Serrano is an ARB-registered architect and Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), specialising in sustainable architectural design, environmental performance, and climate adaptation. She teaches at the University of East London as Senior Lecturer in Sustainability and Environmental Design, where her academic work centres on the socio-environmental impacts of architecture, regenerative material practices, and the relationship between urban space, ecology, and community agency.
Her work builds on fifteen years of professional experience, including roles in leading practices such as Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, Arup and AMP, as well as the leadership of multidisciplinary teams in the UK and internationally. She previously contributed to the Master in Collective Housing at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, supported by the Municipal Housing Company of Madrid.
She has held visiting lecturer roles at Kingston University, London Metropolitan University, Central Saint Martins, and Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie (São Paulo). Teresa serves as Link Tutor for the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT), overseeing UEL-accredited programmes including MSc Sustainability and Adaptation, MSc Sustainability in Energy Provision and Demand Management, MSc Green Building, MRes Sustainability and Adaptation, and the MArch Sustainable Architecture. She is also the Coordinator of the Education Group within the Architects Climate Action Network (ACAN), contributing to national initiatives on community retrofit, climate literacy, and equitable transition in the built environment.
