Dr Shaheen Khatoon is a Senior Lecturer in Data Science at the School of Architecture, Computing, and Engineering, since January 2023.
She received her PhD in Computer Science from Huazong University of Science and Technology, China, in 2012. Throughout her career, she has been affiliated with various universities. Before joining UEL, she served as an Associate Professor at Xian Jiaotong Liverpool University (China) and worked as an Assistant Professor at King Faisal University (Saudi Arabia) and Nanchang University (China).

OVERVIEW
Shaheen's primary area of research is Artificial Intelligence (AI), and she is particularly interested in data mining, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Deep Learning, as well as their interdisciplinary applications to Predictive Analytics in Healthcare, Smart Homes & IoT Applications, Social Network Analytics, and Precision Agriculture. She finds these applications exciting because of their practical value and the inspiration they provide for new problems, which can prompt the development of new theories and algorithms that have not been previously investigated. As a result, Shaheen's research work combines both theoretical and practical aspects of AI techniques to solve real-world problems.
Shaheen has received various research grants and completed numerous research projects in collaboration with industry partners. She has authored over 40 publications in prestigious journals and supervised several postgraduate and undergraduate research projects, with some of them showing a high impact in the field. With a decade of experience in teaching a diverse range of computing courses, extensive experience in curriculum development, and higher education quality assurance, Shaheen has made a lifelong commitment to computer science education. She is a senior member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
