Dr Nabeela Berardinelli is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Engineering and Computing. She is also the Course Leader for the BSc Data Science and Artificial Intelligence programme.
OVERVIEW
Dr Nabeela Berardinelli is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science and Digital Technologies and Course Leader for the BSc Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of East London. With a background in software engineering, machine learning, and educational technologies, her work bridges academic research and industry practice. Dr Berardinelli received the Staff Award for AI and Data Science Industry 4.0/5.0 Readiness for leading the alignment of the BSc programme with national standards. She was instrumental in securing AfDSP Accreditation for both undergraduate and postgraduate Data Science courses, among the first in the UK. Under her leadership, the BSc Data Science & AI became the first UK course to achieve top scores across all five TEF NSS questions, and the first ever at UEL to do so.
MOST RECENT RESEARCH
Dr Nabeela Berardinelli’s research focuses on explainable AI (XAI), natural language processing, text and sentiment analysis, and data-driven approaches to social and educational systems. She is currently part of a funded project exploring an XAI framework for predicting age-related cardiovascular disease using RNA-SEQ data, supported through Early Career Researcher (ECR) funding. Her work contributes to the development of transparent and interpretable AI systems with real-world applications in both healthcare and education.
In recent years, her research has also explored social media analytics, emotion detection, and AI model optimisation. She has collaborated on multiple interdisciplinary projects and regularly presents at international conferences.
