Dr Lazarus Tapuwa Mabvira is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance. He is the current Course Leader for the BSc Banking & Finance and a former Director of the UEL MBA. His educational qualifications include (among others) a PhD in Finance (with Econometrics) and MSc in Banking and Finance (with Distinction) from the University of Sussex; and a BSc in Accounting and Finance (1st Class) from the University of Surrey. Allied to this, Lazarus is also a triple charter holder in accounting, banking and governance.

OVERVIEW
Lazarus is a self-proclaimed “reluctant academic” who combines several years of academic experience with a varied professional background in and around the financial services arena.
He has extensive regulatory, compliance, risk management and development finance experience acquired from holding roles as Credit Risk Analyst, Divisional Accountant, Company Secretary, Bank Examiner and Financial Sector Specialist; all this from stints working within Banking, Reinsurance, Central Banking, Insurance & Pensions Regulation and a Multilateral Financial Institution. Lazarus leverages his varied academic and professional experience to enhance the students experience within a higher education setting. Pursuant of the same objective, he is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA), a Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE) and an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).
CURRENT RESEARCH
Lazarus’s current research interests include banking competition and financial stability, corporate governance and financial misreporting, prudential regulation and risk management in financial institutions, mergers and acquisitions, green finance and sustainability. He is willing to engage with prospective students in and around his areas of research interest.
